The provided IPsec\/L2TP solution is natively supported by Android, iOS, OS X, and Windows. There is no additional software to install. Setup should only take a few minutes. In case you are unable to connect, first check to make sure the VPN credentials were entered correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Android<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
  1. Launch the Settings<\/strong> application.<\/li>
  2. Tap “Network & internet”. Or, if using Android 7 or earlier, tap More…<\/strong> in the Wireless & networks<\/strong> section.<\/li>
  3. Tap VPN<\/strong>.<\/li>
  4. Tap Add VPN Profile<\/strong> or the +<\/strong> icon at top-right of screen.<\/li>
  5. Enter anything you like in the Name<\/strong> field.<\/li>
  6. Select L2TP\/IPSec PSK<\/strong> in the Type<\/strong> drop-down menu.<\/li>
  7. Enter Your VPN Server IP<\/code> in the Server address<\/strong> field.<\/li>
  8. Leave the L2TP secret<\/strong> field blank.<\/li>
  9. Leave the IPSec identifier<\/strong> field blank.<\/li>
  10. Enter Your VPN IPsec PSK<\/code> in the IPSec pre-shared key<\/strong> field.<\/li>
  11. Tap Save<\/strong>.<\/li>
  12. Tap the new VPN connection.<\/li>
  13. Enter Your VPN Username<\/code> in the Username<\/strong> field.<\/li>
  14. Enter Your VPN Password<\/code> in the Password<\/strong> field.<\/li>
  15. Check the Save account information<\/strong> checkbox.<\/li>
  16. Tap Connect<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Once connected, you will see a VPN icon in the notification bar. You can verify that your traffic is being routed properly by looking up your IP address on Google<\/a>. It should say “Your public IP address is Your VPN Server IP<\/code>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    iOS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    1. Go to Settings -> General -> VPN.<\/li>
    2. Tap Add VPN Configuration…<\/strong>.<\/li>
    3. Tap Type<\/strong>. Select L2TP<\/strong> and go back.<\/li>
    4. Tap Description<\/strong> and enter anything you like.<\/li>
    5. Tap Server<\/strong> and enter Your VPN Server IP<\/code>.<\/li>
    6. Tap Account<\/strong> and enter Your VPN Username<\/code>.<\/li>
    7. Tap Password<\/strong> and enter Your VPN Password<\/code>.<\/li>
    8. Tap Secret<\/strong> and enter Your VPN IPsec PSK<\/code>.<\/li>
    9. Make sure the Send All Traffic<\/strong> switch is ON.<\/li>
    10. Tap Done<\/strong>.<\/li>
    11. Slide the VPN<\/strong> switch ON.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Once connected, you will see a VPN icon in the status bar. You can verify that your traffic is being routed properly by looking up your IP address on Google<\/a>. It should say “Your public IP address is Your VPN Server IP<\/code>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Windows 10 and 8.x<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      1. Right-click on the wireless\/network icon in your system tray.<\/li>
      2. Select Open Network and Sharing Center<\/strong>. Or, if using Windows 10 version 1709 or newer, select Open Network & Internet settings<\/strong>, then on the page that opens, click Network and Sharing Center<\/strong>.<\/li>
      3. Click Set up a new connection or network<\/strong>.<\/li>
      4. Select Connect to a workplace<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong>.<\/li>
      5. Click Use my Internet connection (VPN)<\/strong>.<\/li>
      6. Enter Your VPN Server IP<\/code> in the Internet address<\/strong> field.<\/li>
      7. Enter anything you like in the Destination name<\/strong> field, and then click Create<\/strong>.<\/li>
      8. Return to Network and Sharing Center<\/strong>. On the left, click Change adapter settings<\/strong>.<\/li>
      9. Right-click on the new VPN entry and choose Properties<\/strong>.<\/li>
      10. Click the Security<\/strong> tab. Select “Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPsec (L2TP\/IPSec)” for the Type of VPN<\/strong>.<\/li>
      11. Click Allow these protocols<\/strong>. Check the “Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP)” and “Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2)” checkboxes.<\/li>
      12. Click the Advanced settings<\/strong> button.<\/li>
      13. Select Use preshared key for authentication<\/strong> and enter Your VPN IPsec PSK<\/code> for the Key<\/strong>.<\/li>
      14. Click OK<\/strong> to close the Advanced settings<\/strong>.<\/li>
      15. Click OK<\/strong> to save the VPN connection details.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Note:<\/strong> A one-time registry change<\/strong> might be required before connecting. See details below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        OS X<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
        1. Open System Preferences and go to the Network section.<\/li>
        2. Click the +<\/strong> button in the lower-left corner of the window.<\/li>
        3. Select VPN<\/strong> from the Interface<\/strong> drop-down menu.<\/li>
        4. Select L2TP over IPSec<\/strong> from the VPN Type<\/strong> drop-down menu.<\/li>
        5. Enter anything you like for the Service Name<\/strong>.<\/li>
        6. Click Create<\/strong>.<\/li>
        7. Enter Your VPN Server IP<\/code> for the Server Address<\/strong>.<\/li>
        8. Enter Your VPN Username<\/code> for the Account Name<\/strong>.<\/li>
        9. Click the Authentication Settings<\/strong> button.<\/li>
        10. In the User Authentication<\/strong> section, select the Password<\/strong> radio button and enter Your VPN Password<\/code>.<\/li>
        11. In the Machine Authentication<\/strong> section, select the Shared Secret<\/strong> radio button and enter Your VPN IPsec PSK<\/code>.<\/li>
        12. Click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>
        13. Check the Show VPN status in menu bar<\/strong> checkbox.<\/li>
        14. (Important)<\/strong> Click the Advanced<\/strong> button and make sure the Send all traffic over VPN connection<\/strong> checkbox is checked.<\/li>
        15. Click the TCP\/IP<\/strong> tab, and make sure Link-local only<\/strong> is selected in the Configure IPv6<\/strong> section.<\/li>
        16. Click OK<\/strong> to close the Advanced settings, and then click Apply<\/strong> to save the VPN connection information.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Ubuntu Linux<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          Ubuntu 18.04 (and newer) users can install the network-manager-l2tp-gnome<\/a> package using apt<\/code>, then configure the IPsec\/L2TP VPN client using the GUI. Ubuntu 16.04 users may need to add the nm-l2tp<\/code> PPA, read more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Go to Settings -> Network -> VPN. Click the +<\/strong> button.<\/li>
          2. Select Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)<\/strong>.<\/li>
          3. Enter anything you like in the Name<\/strong> field.<\/li>
          4. Enter Your VPN Server IP<\/code> for the Gateway<\/strong>.<\/li>
          5. Enter Your VPN Username<\/code> for the User name<\/strong>.<\/li>
          6. Right-click the ?<\/strong> in the Password<\/strong> field, select Store the password only for this user<\/strong>.<\/li>
          7. Enter Your VPN Password<\/code> for the Password<\/strong>.<\/li>
          8. Leave the NT Domain<\/strong> field blank.<\/li>
          9. Click the IPsec Settings…<\/strong> button.<\/li>
          10. Check the Enable IPsec tunnel to L2TP host<\/strong> checkbox.<\/li>
          11. Leave the Gateway ID<\/strong> field blank.<\/li>
          12. Enter Your VPN IPsec PSK<\/code> for the Pre-shared key<\/strong>.<\/li>
          13. Expand the Advanced<\/strong> section.<\/li>
          14. Enter aes128-sha1-modp2048!<\/code> for the Phase1 Algorithms<\/strong>.<\/li>
          15. Enter aes128-sha1-modp2048!<\/code> for the Phase2 Algorithms<\/strong>.<\/li>
          16. Click OK<\/strong>, then click Add<\/strong> to save the VPN connection information.<\/li>
          17. Turn the VPN<\/strong> switch ON.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
